Avoid the street closures for the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon Sunday, Oct. 1
On Sunday, October 1, Japantown (and Wesley UMC) will almost be entirely cut off due to the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon that day. Crossing the race route is difficult and sometimes impossible. This year there is no information on how to cross the race route. However, you can still make it to church if you follow one of these two suggested routes:
1. "The Overpass Route"
From 880: Take the Coleman exit south (away from SJC), go past Target, under the 87 freeway, over Bassett Street (the race course goes under you here). Then turn left (east) onto St. James St. From St. James you can take 3rd or 4th St. to Empire, turn right and then take 5th or 6th to Wesley's parking lots.
2. "The Between the Start and the Finish Route"
From 280: Take Bird Ave exit north (toward the SAP Center), turn right on W. San Carlos St. (right), turn left on N First Street (left). Take N. First Street to Empire and turn right (east). Finally turn left on either 5th or 6th streets to get to Wesley's parking lots.
3. In addition, from North 87, you can take the Julian St. exit east onto St. James St and then take 5th or 6th to the church.
WAZE (navigation app) users often take advantage of up-to-date detour information on days like this.
Be sure to leave extra time to get to church on Sunday, October 9. Avoid the frustration by taking one of the above routes.
